POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Medical Director (AMD) is a board certified physician who serves as the Deputy to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).  S/He is responsible for providing clinical leadership, fostering the achievement of superior quality metrics, marshalling strategic goals and direction, and facilitating the timely recruitment and retention of the medical staff CCI Health and Wellness Services, Inc. (CCI). The AMD works cooperatively and effectively with the CMO and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), utilizing a balanced and collaborative approach to ensure the achievement of annual strategic goals and objectives.  The AMD provides senior level leadership in maintaining quality of care, promoting provider productivity and training.  S/He delivers effective and efficient patient care during required clinical time in compliance with established clinical protocols. 

KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides primary medical services in accordance with clinical specialty, including examination, diagnosis, treatment, education and prevention in accordance with evidence based clinical protocols and guidelines. Makes appropriate referrals for specialty consultation and / or treatment.
2. Maintains professional competence by completing annual CME, maintaining requisite certifications and participating in professional development activities.
3. Provides practice site leadership and supervises Health Center Medical Directors (HCMD)s/Lead Clinicians. Serves as Acting Health Center Medical Director for open positions.
4. Develops, modifies, prepares and completes probationary and annual performance appraisals; manages and directs provider performance, patient satisfaction and productivity programs and incentives, including targets, expectations, scoring guidelines, rewards systems, completion, etc.
5. In accordance with CCI's policies, maintains accurate and current patient medical records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Completes all referrals, forms, reports and other records as required for quality services and program support.
6. Assists the CMO in communicating, achieving and maintaining quality standards (Joint Commission, NCQA) and Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) principles, including active participation in agency's Quality Improvement Plan.
7. Involved in all initiatives involving patient safety, quality, infection prevention, risk management and patient service, especially those related to provider issues.
8. Actively participates in provider (physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioner) recruitment and retention. Responsible for achieving and maintaining provider staffing goals and insuring providers meet and maintain core competencies through utilization of CME.
9. Represents the Medical Department in the planning, coordination and implementation of Provider Orientation and Clinical Staff Meetings.
10. Assists in the development of medical policies, protocols and procedures in accordance with evidence based practice guidelines.
11. Contributes to clinically-related portions of regulatory reports including UDS, Joint Commission, FTCA and organizational strategic and operational plans.
12. Assists the appropriate staff in the solicitation, development, management and evaluation of grants.
13. Represents provider perspective with Directors of Nursing, Clinical Quality and Clinical Operations in agency meetings.
14. Supervises Credentialing Coordinator and credentialing processes.
15. In conjunction with the Clinical Quality Director, is responsible for assuring a robust peer review process, ensuring adherence to standards of quality, safety and service
16. Makes recommendations to the CMO regarding provider performance, including issues around discipline, compliance, suspension and termination. Oversees the process of provider probation and exit in collaboration with the CMO.
17. Represents CCI at local, state and national meetings and in Medical Advisory Committees as required or requested by the CMO.
18. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides direct supervision to Health Center Medical Directors and to providers as an Acting Health Center Medical Director when necessary.
2. Supervises the Credentialing Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
1. Graduation from an accredited school of medicine, completion of a clinical residency program and board certification in chosen specialty.
2. Unencumbered Maryland medical license, Federal DEA and Maryland CDS.
3. Five years of experience in direct provision of primary care services, preferably in a community health center
4. Critical thinker with demonstrated leadership, communication & analytic skills.
5. Proficiency in written and oral communication.
6. Understanding and appreciation of the financial aspects of a healthcare organization, including resource generation and meeting of strategic goals.
7. Ability to make difficult decisions, build team members and other leaders and hold others and self accountable.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Graduate level degree/training in Business Administration, Public Health, or Information Technology strongly preferred.
2. Experience as a Medical Director or other supervisory role.
3. Experience in the development & management of quality, risk, & utilization review processes.
4. Communication skills in language other than English.
